HOW ARE YOU GETTING HERE?
TIMES TO REMEMBER
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A B&B OR GUESTHOUSE AND A HOTEL?
B&B’s and Guest houses are mainly family businesses, without staff and no full time receptionist to check you in.
We prefer to ask guests an approximate arrival time, so we can arrange our day to be here, to welcome you. This works better than having a strict 2-3 hour check-in period which may not suit many of our guests. Flights get delayed. Traffic jams happen. Buses break down. We are well aware of the uncertainties of travel. It’s okay if you’re late for check-in, but the important thing is to touch base with us when there’s a change in plans. Before you leave, make sure you have the contact information for your B&B. At B&Bs, as in life, communication and common courtesy are key.
By contrast, hotels are operating around the clock, employing full time staff.
B&B’s and Guest houses are usually smaller than hotels and offer a limited set of amenities, although some of them are prized by guests more than the hotel ones, like a homemade breakfast cooked to order.
WHERE TO PARK?
When you arrive, park within the on-street parking bays in Zone A (Burneside Road/Cross St/Busher Walk/Union St/Caroline St/Windermere Rd). Only the first hour is free, so when your checked-in, pick up your yellow parking permit (one car per room), which allows you to park on bays at any time 24/7. Also, the next side road ‘Busher Walk’ has plenty of areas with no lines and is therefore safe to park at any time.
Top Tip! On-street parking is always a little easier, during 3pm-5pm. Later arrivals may need to find parking spaces a little further away from the guesthouse.
Note, sorry there is no parking permit for motorcycles but we understand from the Council that motorcycles do not need a permit to park on bays. Please note, that the vehicle displaying the Permit, must not exceed 5.00 metres in length or 2.28 metres in height.
COMING BY TRAIN?
It’s a 10-minute walk from Kendal Station to the Sonata Guest House.
Come out of the station and go down to the main road Longpool/A6 i.e. turn right.

CAN CHILDREN STAY?
CAN I BRING PETS?
DO YOU HAVE ANY SMOKING ROOMS?
DO YOU HAVE SECURE CYCLE STORAGE?
Sorry, but we have no secure bicycle storage, only railings at the front of the guesthouse. It’s not possible to leave cycles inside the bedroom, the stairs are narrow too. There is no access to the back garden, so that’s not an option either. The only option is to secure them onto the railing at the front of the Guest House (See the photo on our website homepage or search postcode LA9 4RL on Google maps to see the railings to assess suitability).
WHAT TIME IS CHECK-IN?

WHAT TIME CAN I HAVE BREAKFAST?
Breakfast is served between 7.30-09.00 am during the week, and 7.30-09.30 am on Sat/Sunday morning.

Yes, but Tebay just north of J38 on the M6 has evolved into a showcase for Cumbrian produce. Probably the freshest, most flavoursome motorway food you will ever eat!

- Contact free check in/out
- Guided by current advise we are unable to help carry bags. There are 14 steps to the first and a further 13 steps to the second floor

- To minimise contact, housekeeping teams will not enter bedrooms during stay
- As of the 22 Sept 2020, guests must wear masks in public areas of the guesthouse i.e. communal corridors and stairs.
- For the moment, we are not accepting international guests. When legal guidance is provided, we will update our policies in line with them.
CHECKING-IN AND SOCIAL DISTANCING
We want to make your stay as welcoming as possible, and remain safe. Therefore we have decided to minimise direct contact and make some changes in order to maintain social distancing measures in place at this time. We have also placed hand sanitisers in public areas for your use.
CHANGES TO ARRIVAL
We will leave your room keys and parking permit in your room, disinfected for guest collection. We will text you your room number on day of arrival and leave the door open. We will be available at the guesthouse, but to minimise contact we hope you’ll be happy to let yourselves in and make yourselves comfortable. We will be available on the phone if you have any problems or want to chat.
CHANGES TO BREAKFAST TIME
Given the set-up of our breakfast room, we are going to have two sittings for breakfast, one at 08.00 and another at 08.45. We can accommodate two rooms per sitting and we thank you in advance for your flexibility here, especially if we are fully booked. We will try and accommodate you on your preferred time, but this may not always be possible. If it’s important that you have one or other of these times, please check the availability by calling 01539 732290 before making any booking.
To allow us to turn around the two sittings safely and to allow you time to enjoy the breakfast we will be asking all our guests to make a pre-order the day before. You can see the menu via http://www.sonataguesthouse.co.uk/breakfast/ And we’ll leave a printout in a frame in the entrance hallway. Thanks for letting us know your breakfast order by texting or calling 07723362881 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org the day before.
We will bring fresh cutlery and serve your order to your table taking appropriate precautions. Hopefully the mask won’t detract from the warm welcome.
To limit contact points, we are asking all guests to kindly pay the full amount to credit our account seven days prior to arrival. Guests whose stays are not allowed to go ahead as planned due to government imposed legislative lockdown will be given a no quibble refund.
Please note, Gym and Spa facilities are no longer available to guests.
LOOKING AFTER YOUR HEALTH

MAKING YOUR STAY SAFE

Please accept our apologise here, but guided by the current advise with we will be unable to help carry your bags. Please note that our property does not have a lift. There are 14 steps to the first floor rooms and a further 13 narrower steps to the second floor rooms.
To help minimise touch points throughout the hotel, we have suspended our left luggage facility until further notice.
There may be a reduction of in-room furnishings/high-touch items.
To minimise housekeepers’ interaction with guest rooms, if you are staying more than one night, we will only clean your room if you ask us to. Therefore, please remember to turn off room lights, bathroom taps, TV and fan in the room, when you leave room.
Any guests requiring new towels or bathmats, tea and coffee just need to text 07233 62881 and we will be happy to help.
More frequent cleaning of high-touch areas, such as check-in tables, door handles and handrails with disinfectants compliant with BSEN 1276. We are using chemicals, that sanitise our rooms to the standard of Modified EN14476 for viricidal efficacy.
In the bedroom, we are paying special attention to heating controls, TV remotes, door handles and desks. All bathroom toiletries are wiped with disinfectant.
We launder all our linen at over 60 degrees, with disinfectant detergent so you can enjoy a safe and great night’s sleep. We will launder all towels, even if unused.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT TO OURSELVES AND LOCAL BUSINESSES
We may have to make changes to the above if guidance changes. Thank you for your understanding and for helping us all stay safe together.
