Sonata Guest House Access Statement

Introduction

Sonata Guest House aims to provide comfortable Bed & Breakfast accommodation and encourages guest feedback. The property is an early Victorian House (old sweet shop!) with a ground, first and second floor.

The following information is provided to help in deciding if the Sonata Guest House is suitable for you.

Pre-Arrival

  • Kendal Bus Station is approximately a 5 minutes level walk from the Sonata Guest House. There are regular, albeit infrequent, bus services around Kendal and to the Lakes
  • Taxi services are available (Blue Star taxis – Telephone 01539 723670)
  • Kendal is the closest railway station, which is approximately 12 minute walk or 0.6 miles away.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

  • We ask all guests to contact us to advise your anticipated arrival time so that we can be here to greet you.
  • We have on-street parking permits for all rooms. During busy periods it may not be possible to park immediately outside the property, but usually parking is available along the street or on first left and right side streets.
  • We are always happy to assist guests with reasonable luggage.
  • Kendal Town Centre is approximately a four minute or 0.2 mile walk, mostly level ground.

Main Entrance & Reception

  • Our front door entrance is on Burneside Road.
  • One step of approx 16cm to the front porch and 8cm door step.
  • The front door is usually locked and a doorbell is available.
  • The front door is approx 80cm in width.
  • Our hallway area (W80cm x L680cm) leads to the main staircase. The lounge and dining room is to the left as you enter.

Public Areas – General (Internal)

  • All our bedrooms are located on the first and second floor
  • All the floor areas on stairs, halls and bedrooms are carpeted.
  • The lounge and dining room is located on the ground floor and accessed from the hallway.

Dining Room

  • Breakfast is served in the dining room on the ground floor. There is a separate table for each room and each table seats two people. Menus will be given each morning and breakfast freshly cooked. We do our best to cater for all tastes and needs but please let us know if you have any particular requirements. We normally have television news in the background.

Restaurants

  • We are happy to recommend and give information on local restaurants to suit your requirement and will make bookings if guest requires.

Laundry

  • We cannot offer laundry facilities but we are happy to help with drying wet clothing and will provide an iron and board if required. The Guest Information Pack in your room will contain details of local launderette(s).

Leisure Facilities

  • We do not have our own facilities but we are happy to recommend facilities available in the area.

Bedrooms

  • We have a total of four bedrooms, two on the first floor and two on the second floor.
  • There are fourteen stairs to the first floor landing leading to room 1 (family room) and room 2 (double room). A further thirteen stairs lead to the second floor landing with access to room 3 (twin room) and room 4 (double room).
  • The stairs to the first floor have steps 20 cm high, 25 cm deep and 78 cm wide. There is a banister to the left hand side up to the first floor landing. The stairs to the second floor have steps 20 cm high, 25 cm deep and 70 cm wide. The bannister to the second floor is on the right hand side.
  • Door widths are 65cm
  • Television with remote control is provided. All rooms have central heating radiators with temperature control. All rooms are carpeted. Complimentary Tea/coffee making facilities are provided.

First Floor Bedrooms:-

Room One

  • One double and one single bed. Can be used as either double, twin or family room.
  • At least 45cm access between beds and furniture.
  • Smaller items of furniture can be moved on request.
  • Beds are approximately 60cm in height.
  • One folding chair is provided and kept in the wardrobe
  • The en-suite bathroom has a WC, basin and shower cubicle (no bath).

Room Two

  • One double bed.
  • At least 45cm access between beds and furniture.
  • Smaller items of furniture can be moved on request.
  • Beds are approximately 60cm in height.
  • One folding chair is provided and kept in the wardrobe
  • The en-suite bathroom has a basin and shower with screen over the bath. There is a separate en-suite WC room.

Second Floor Bedrooms:-

Room Three

  • Twin beds.
  • At least 45cm access between beds and furniture.
  • Smaller items of furniture can be moved on request.
  • Beds are approximately 60cm in height.
  • The en-suite shower room has WC, basin and shower cubicle.

Room Four

  • One double bed.
  • At least 45cm access between beds and furniture.
  • Smaller items of furniture can be moved on request.
  • Beds are approximately 60cm in height.
  • The en-suite shower room has WC, basin and shower with curtain over a bath

Additional Information

  • Mobile phone services are generally available throughout the house but this does vary by different networks.
  • We operate a ‘no smoking’ policy throughout all parts of the house.
  • A fire alarm is fitted with smoke and heat detectors. A bell sounds if evacuation is needed.
  • We have a limited amount of space in our main fridge for medications and other special needs on request.
